Where can intellectual property rights be applied in the sector of cultural heritage and cultural tourism? How can the usage of intellectual property rights have economic benefit for them?

The Macedonian Enterprise Development Foundation presented the forms of intellectual property, emphasizing their importance in the sector of cultural tourism and cultural heritage. Successful examples of application of intellectual property rights from North Macedonia, Germany, Spain, Bulgaria and Romania were shared at the event. The need to develop business skills and broad views for proper use of the benefits offered by the protection of the trademark, geographical indication and indication of origin were emphasised.

The event also presented the Learn-IP training programme and the Learn-IP training platform, specific to stakeholders from the cultural tourism and cultural heritage sector.

After the event, the participants expressed their satisfaction from the presentation and showed interest in further elaboration and organization of such events. Some of the professors even expressed interest in creating a teaching module as part of their subject which will focus on the geographical indication for food and beverages.

The main goal of the event was to encourage greater application of intellectual property rights in the sector of cultural heritage and cultural tourism, to motivate and to inspire the participants to use the knowledge obtained from the event in order to identify products and services which could be potentially protected with IPR and have economical gain.
